Muscat de Minervois made here
Largenex and tBoW lugged enough wines to stuff a bird. The diners drank and munched, took a break, then they dined and munched some more. We ran through a dozen red and white wines the most notable of which are singled out below. However, the dessert wines like the desserts stole the show. (more…)

Last week we covered the impending collapse in Burgundy prices. Some of the best evidence that a collapse is imminent among “top tier” wines and labels is what we have seen in German Riesling all summer long. The deals that have been offered to the tBoW Tasting Team [ed. Field Mouse, Kris-B] have been astounding. Check these out. (more…)

Eighty degrees on a summer evening with a crowd of weird tasters and weird wines serving grilled food is a recipe for entertainment. Weird wines AND weird foods crosses the line. The extra WEIRD was delivered by the US Open golf tournament held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, hosted by the USGA. These regulatory sourpusses provided more than enough weirdness for a national audience. I will make this brief but it must be said. The USGA is beyond starchy. These guardians of the ancient game make it plain that shooting par is a good score to win the national open tournament. To put it in wine terms this is like Robert Parker saying wines should strive to taste the same. Wait. He does say that…big and fruity and alcoholic. (more…)

Batterieberg Vineyard in the Mosel
She FINALLY got here. Like the panting crowd waiting for the always-late movie star to arrive we expect a very good show. Along with summer come the wine festivals, music festivals, art studio tours, golf tournaments (SO to my NRCC homies struggling for glory in the sunshine) and plenty…I said plenty…of warm evenings with friends and fellow wine lovers. We already hit the first wine & food festival, Casa Pacifica in Camarillo. The Topanga Art Studio Tour is this weekend then LAs’ BEST outdoor party the Playboy Jazz Festival is Fathers Day weekend.

brackets ready!
Bracketology and March Madness will keep a blogger from posting on a timely basis. Early picks like Kansas State (8 seed beats 9 seed, your basic toss-up) and VCU beats Wichita State (the classic 12 seed upsetting a 5 seed) are just a setup for the next round losses like my senior big men from Vanderbilt losing to cheeseheads from Wisconsin. I had Vandy going to the the Final Four. Just saps my energy. It seems so much easier to pick wines, no?
